But you have not honored the God who gives you the breath of life and controls your destiny!

Instead, you have exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven. You brought before you the vessels from his temple, and you and your nobles, together with your wives and concubines, drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone— gods that cannot see or hear or comprehend! But you have not glorified the God who has in his control your very breath and all your ways!

No, you did not become humble. Instead, you have turned against the Lord of heaven. You ordered the drinking cups from the Lord's Temple to be brought to you. Then you and your royal officials, your wives, and your slave women drank wine from those cups. You gave praise to the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone. They are not really gods; they cannot see or hear or understand anything. But you did not give honor to the God who has the power over your life and everything you do.
