কিন্তু এই সেনাপতি রব্শাকি তখন বললেন, “আমাদের রাজা আমায় কেবলমাত্র তোমার বা তোমার রাজার সঙ্গে কথা বলতে পাঠান নি| আমি দেওয়ালের ওপরে বসে থাকা লোকদের সঙ্গেও কথা বলছি| কারণ তাদেরও তোমাদের মতো নিজেদের বিষ্ঠা খেতে হবে, আর নিজেদের মূত্র পান করতে হবে!”

But Rab-shakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you.

But Sennacherib's chief of staff replied, "Do you think my master sent this message only to you and your master? He wants all the people to hear it, for when we put this city under siege, they will suffer along with you. They will be so hungry and thirsty that they will eat their own dung and drink their own urine."

But the chief adviser said to them, "My master did not send me to speak these words only to your master and to you. His message is also for the men who sit on the wall, for they will eat their own excrement and drink their own urine along with you."

But the commander said to them, "My master did not send me to speak only to you and your master. I was also sent to speak to those people sitting on the wall. They, too, will not have enough food or water; they, too, will eat their own waste and drink their own urine like you! "
